The SQL Playground is an online practice environment for PostgreSQL, used through a web browser. Every account can query a ready-made practice database on our server, which is shared and read-only, and gets My database: a private PostgreSQL database that runs inside your browser, on your device. It is for learning and practice.

My database is kept by the browser you use it in. It isn't copied to our servers or to your other devices, and clearing this site's data in that browser deletes it. To keep a copy, export it to a .sql file from the playground; you can import that file again later. The chapter labs run the SQL you give them on our server, in a scratch area that is deleted after each run.

The practice data, such as the customers, orders and payments in ecommerce_db, is made up. It describes no real person or business.

We improve the service over time and may change its features and its fair-use limits. The limits that apply today are listed on the playgrounds page.

• Give an email address you can receive mail at, and confirm it. Sign-in, password resets and purchase emails go there.
• An account is for one person. Don't share it or your password, and tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.
• Your username is permanent. We may refuse or remove a username that is offensive or pretends to be someone else.
• Anyone can create an account with the code printed in the SQL book. If you are under 18, use the service only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms for you.

• Book code. The code printed in the SQL book gives an account 180 days of access, free, counted from the day the account is created. It can be used once per account.
• Code for one person. It gives 3 months of access and works only with the email address it was bought for.
• Group code. It has a number of seats, for the students of the school that bought it. Each student uses one seat, with their own email address and their own account, and gives the school's email that the code was bought with. Each gets 3 months of access.
• Promo code. It takes a percentage off at checkout. Where a group discount also applies, you get whichever is bigger; the two don't add up.
• Access starts the day a person creates their account with a code, or adds the code to an account they already have. Adding a code before your access ends adds the new time to the end of the old. A code nobody has used yet does not run down.
• When your access ends, your account, your saved tabs and My database stay, but you can't use the playground until you add a code. See the privacy policy for how long we keep them.
• Codes are not for resale. Share a group code only with the people you bought it for.

• You must be 18 or older to buy a code. When you buy a group code, you also confirm that everyone you give it to is 18 or older.
• Prices are on the pricing page and are in Indian rupees, including GST. The total is shown before you pay, and that is what you are charged. A change in price never affects an order already paid.
• Payments are processed by Razorpay Software Private Limited, under its own terms. We never see or store your card, UPI or bank details.
• The code appears on screen once payment is confirmed, and we email it to you with a GST tax invoice.

A code is delivered as soon as it is paid for, so an order can't be cancelled after payment. We refund failed and duplicate payments, and refund where the service falls short as the law requires. The details are in the cancellation and refund policy, which is part of these terms.

When you use the service, you must not:

• try to reach another person's account or data, or any part of the system you weren't given;
• try to get around the fair-use limits, the sandbox or any security measure;
• attack, overload or scan the service, or drive it with automated tools beyond normal practice;
• store or share anything unlawful, harmful or infringing, or anyone's real personal data. Practise with made-up data instead;
• use it for work other than learning SQL, such as mining cryptocurrency or hosting a production database;
• sell, publish or hand out codes, or share your account.

If an account breaks these rules, we may limit, suspend or close it. Where it's safe to, we tell you first and give you a chance to put things right.

The queries you write and the tables and data you create are yours. My database stays in your browser, and we never receive it. What does reach us, your saved tabs, your runs on the shared practice database and in the labs, and any error report you send, you allow us to store and process only to run the service for you.

We don't look at it except to keep the service working and secure, to help you when you ask us to, or when the law requires. Your tabs, history and progress are deleted when you delete your account. My database is deleted when you reset it, when this site's data is cleared in your browser, or when you delete your account in that browser. The playground is for practice, so export anything you want to keep, and don't put confidential information in it.

We work to keep the playground running, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance or when one of our providers has an outage. We don't promise it will always be available or free of errors.

If we decide to stop offering the SQL Playground, we will email account holders at least 30 days before, and refund the unused part of any paid access.

You can delete your account at any time from the account menu in the playground. That permanently deletes your query tabs, history and progress, and My database in the browser you delete it from. Copies of My database in other browsers or on other devices stay there until you reset them or clear the site's data; we can't reach them. Access you have paid for ends with it and is not refunded. We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms.

The service is a practice tool, provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for losing work you didn't keep a copy of, including My database when a browser's data is cleared. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for the service in the 12 months before your claim.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or any other law.

How we collect and use personal data is set out in the privacy policy.

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version. If a change matters to people with accounts, we email them before it takes effect. If you don't accept a change, you can delete your account.

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Please first raise any complaint with our grievance officer, whose details are on the contact page. Subject to that, the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction. This does not affect your right to file a complaint with a Consumer Commission under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
